 With its focus on inclusivity and diversity, the online course Discussing diversity and discrimination is the perfect fit for educators, trainers and youth leaders who want to create a safe space for complex and sensitive conversations with their students.

Why this online course?

When dealing with topics that are both complex and sensitive – such as diversity and discrimination – it is essential to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to proactively address them. Educators need support in achieving this. The main goal of the course is to inspire educators to create safe spaces for an open exchange of ideas, engaging their students and encouraging critical thinking.

What?

• This course will enhance participants’ skills as inclusive educators.
• The focus will be on helping students be aware of the need to respond to the many forms of discrimination, including antigypsyism, antisemitism, discrimination against LGBT+ and Muslims, and racism.
• Participants will explore the Visible Thinking and Blended Learning methods and gain insight into creating ‘safe space’ by using some of the modules of the online toolbox Stories that Move.
• Participants will be asked to develop and submit their own lesson plan, and assess two lesson plans put together by others.
• There will be one live event during the course.
• Participants will receive a digital course badge and certificate upon completion of the full course. There are no costs involved.
• The course will be offered in English.

Who?

The course is primarily aimed at educators, teachers, trainers and youth leaders at all levels and of all subjects with an interest in the topic, but anyone is welcome to join.

When?

The course starts on Monday 19 April and it runs for 2 weeks including an extra optional weekend for submitting the required assignment at the end of the course. The estimated workload is 1 hour a day, for a total of 10 hours.
