Nicole Forstner is a secondary school teacher at the Bundes-Oberstufenrealgymnasium (BORG) in Kindberg in central Austria. She was introduced to the Stories that Move toolbox at a seminar in Berlin in October 2017.

She and her 15 students worked with one of the five learning paths.

I worked with the learning path Facing discrimination with high school students aged between 15 and 16. They had already logged into the tool as homework, so we could go straight into the path.

I would like to highlight some features:

• It is very modern. Being able to answer with a WhatsApp message was particularly well received.
• It is moving. The teenagers’ YouTube clips about their experiences with discrimination triggered lots of empathy.
• It is easy to use. All you need is an email address and a computer. 

Leonie H. (15) said of her experience using STM: “The lessons were very exciting. I liked the personal approach to the concept. It was good to have things taught differently. ” 

After a group reflection, the class and I decided that we would also do the Life stories learning path – a real endorsement for the STM toolbox.

An international conference will take place in Berlin in June 2018 to which teachers who have worked with the toolbox will be invited. We want them to share their experiences with us and help collect ideas on how Stories that Move can be introduced to more teachers in the future.
